Otorohanga Branch. j The ordinary monthly meeting of j the Otorohanga branch of the New j Zealand Farmers' Union was held on j the 9th inst. There were present | Messrs Jno. Willis (in the chair), Wm. j Vicary, T. S. Ranby, P. J. Sullivan, ! C. J. Johnson and H. M. Quin (secre- I tary and treasurer). _ | Correspondence was received from — j Mr F. O'B. Loughnan, S.M., expressing his willingness to support the branch's effort in getting a suitable courthouse erected in Otorohanga; also enclosing a. table of the civil and criminal business transacted there ; during the past three years. ! Minister of Justice (Dr Findlay) stating that the matter of the erection of a courthouse at Otorohanga was now under consideration. Minister of Railways, stating that the work respecting the improvement j of the Otorohanga station accommoda- j tion, trucking yards and goods shed j would be put in hand at an early date, I as soon as the necessary hands were j available for the work. j Messrs C. F. Storey, A. J. Ross, D. j M. Ross, Wm. Hudson and James ! Cumpstone (all of Kio Kio), askirg to i be transferred to that branch. —The j secretary made the transfer as re- j quested. _ j Wm. Hudson (secretaiy of the Kio j Kio branch), regarding arrears in sub- j scriptions of late members of the j Otorohanga branch. j Provincial secretary enclosing, prospectus forms of the newly-formed "Auckland Provincial Farmers' Union Trading and Indenting Association, Limited," also wholesale price-lists and quotations to members of the union, showing a saving to members of from 15 to 20 per ce.->t. (for cash) less than when the same goods are bought retail. Mr E. Clifton, director of fields and experimental farms, enclosing forms (which members were asked to fill up) asking for farmers to give individual expressions of opinion and experiences regarding the diseases in turnip crops in order that a remedy might be found to obliterate or combat the evil. Mr Wm. Vicary proposed and Mr Jno. Ormbsy seconded that the secretary be instructed to at once commu_ nicate with the president "f the Maori Land Board, asking him to get the first members of the proposed Otorohanga Town Board elected without further delav, as the residents of the township wished to do improvements to the streets and footpaths during the summer months. The matter of county severance was generally discussed, and all present were in favour of movement, and endeavours will be made to bring the desired change about as soon as practicable.
