The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— There was a large attendance and spirited bidding at Mr W. Thompson's clearing sale near Kihikihi on Monday week. ,The 55 dairy cows averaged over £9, the highest price being £l2 10s. Springing heifers made £6 to £ll, empty heifers 2 year old £3 lis to £5, yearling heifers £2 10s, Jerseybulls 13 to 15J guineas, breeding sows £4 7s 6d to £5 ss, Yorkshire boars, Weaners 21s, sows 28s, yearling colt by Awamutu £ls, implements, etc., at usual rates. At Ohaupo, on Tuesday week, we had an average yarding of cattle, and prices showed an advance on late sales. Three year steers made £6 10s, 2\ to 3 year steers £4 13s to £5 3s, 2 year steers £4 to £4 4s, 18 month steers £3 7s to £3 15s, yearling steers £2 16s, mixed calves 40s to 475, heifers 40s to 465, 2 year empty heifers £3 7s 6d to £3 19s, fat cows £5 2s 6d, empty cows in fresh condition £3 to £3 10s, dairy cows close to profit £5 10s to' £7, heifers £7 to £9 2s 6d, more backward £4l 2s 6d to £5 15s. At Hamilton, on Thursday, 350 head of cattle, 700 sheep, and 220 pigs were penned. Fat steers made £9 ss, fat cows prime £7 Is to £8 6s, lighter weights £5 5s to £5 10s, 2 year empty heifers £3 10s to £3 16s, empty cows in fresh condition £3 to £3 Is, calves 36s to 455, springing heifers £5 15s to £7 10s, more backward £4 10s to £5 2s 6d, fat wethers 19s 6d to 245, fat hoggets 21s, store hoggets 13s to 14s 9d, ewe hoggets 15s Id, fat ewes 16s 6d to 20s, score ewes 12s 6d, wethers 15s porkers 20s to 21s, slips 15s 6d to 18s, weaners Ss 6d to 13s. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltu., Hamilton, report: — We held our usual monthly stock sale in the Te Awamutu yards on Saturday, 3rd inst., when a full yarding of sheep and cattle came forward, comprising mostly yearlings and dairy stock, fat and forward ewes, fat wethers, forward empty ewes and ewes in lamb. There was absolutely no demand for sheep at all, and purchasers are evidently hanging back until the spring is well in, when we anticipate a very big rise in this class of stock. Two and three year steers, for which there were a limited number, sold fairly well, but yearlings and dairy stuff were keenly sought after and realised prices in advance of late rates. Quotations: —120 ewes in lamb 13s, 3 year steers £5 12s 6d, forward empty cows £4 15s to £5 2s 6d, store cows £2 10s to £3 12s-, mixed yearlings £2 6s to £2 10s, springing heifers £5 17s 6d to £7 10s, milch cows £8 5s to £9 ss, porkers 30s 6d, store pigs 16s 6d to 18s, weaners 6s to 14s 6d. We held our usual fat stock sale at Westfield, and report:—Beef—A very small yarding. Choice ox sold at up to 28s for extra quality, average prime ox fetching 27s per hundred, cow and heifer at 24s to 26s per hundred. Veal —A large yarding selling at low prices. Mutton —A small yarding. Very keen demand. Choice heavy wethers selling up to 31s from 275, ordinary prime wethers, medium weights selling from 22s to 265, heavy ewes to 28s, medimu quality and weight 18s to 20s. Lamb—'Good hoggets up to 20s 6d, medium 14s to 17s, spring lamb to 18s 6d. At our usual weekly sale of hides, skins, tallow, etc., at Auckland, on Tuesday, 30th August, we cleared a large catalogue. Hides —Market firm. We quote extra stout ox to 7£d, stout 6£d to 6Jd, medium sgd to 6d, light 5Jd to s|d, cow, best lines to 6d, good 5Jd to s|d, inferior 4£d to sd, stags 4Jd to sd, kips s£d to 6Jd, calf, best to B£d, good 6Jd to 7d, cut and damaged hides 3Jd to 4|d. Sheepskin l ! Market brisk. Butchers' best skins to 6s 9d, good 5s to 5s 9d, medium 4s 2d to 4s Bd, small 3s to 3s 6d, dry skins, large to 53 6d. Tallow —Market continues firm. Best mixed 28s 6d, good 275, medium 23s to 24s 6d, rough fat l|d to Igd per lb. Cow tails —Is 8d per doz. Horse hair — Is 4d to Is 8d per lb. Bones —Good dry £4 17s 6d per ton.
