DEERING DISC PLOUGHS.
An exhibition of the qualities of the twofurrow Deering disc plough was given before a large attendance on Messrs Cotter Bros', property, Te Kuiti, last Thursday, on the invitation of Messrs Green and Colebrook Ltd., the local agents. It was first tried on the smooth earth, and left that ground in such a fashion that a very slight amount of harrowing would prepare it for seed. This feature of its qualities obviously economises labour for the farmer. Afterwards it was taken over the bruken uneven land, and went through every obstacle, tearing out furze roots as thick as small trees. In another recent working on Mr Board's land at Hangatiki a mo9t searching trial was given it. The land selected was about as rough and unworkable as it could be found anywhere, and six draught horses had been attached to the plough in anticipation of some formidable work. The plough walked through everything, tearing out ti-tree roots and furze roots of great thickness and weight, and all without damaging the plough in the slightest degree. Each stroke of the plough would be going over nearly a yard of land. Its strength must be great to do such work as this. The ground in Te Kuiti is open to anyone to visit and see for himself the work the plough has been doing. This implement should prove an immense advantage to farmers with land of the nature dealt with at the recent trials.
