N.Z. FARMERS' UNION.

Ohura Branch. Since its formation a couple of months ago, the Ohura branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union has gone ahead steadily." At that time Mr Schnutt, the organising secretary for the Auckland province, paid'us a visit and gave a very interesting and instructive address on the benefits to be derived from, and the necessity for farmers joining the union. This branch, although not quite on its feet, was met by urgent business at once. The conference of local bodies of the King Country was held at Taumarunui and the chairman of the Ohura branch of the Farmers' Union was deputed to represent us. Arising out of this it was found advisable to send a further deputation to Wellington, and Mesrss Loveday and Williams were the union's representatives on that deputation with instructions to support the other delegates in their representations generally, but to specialise on our need for railway communication between here and the Main Trunk line. We are living in hopes that we will not be overlooked this time, but recognise that our chance would be better if we were located elsewhere say, in the South Isand. As an outcome of a motion brought before the union by Mr Loveday we went into the matter of erecting sale yards at Mangaroa, at our last meeting. A committee was set up to go into business and have the district canvassed to see what support we are likely to get in the taking up of shares and are in hopes that the support will be sufficient to warrant the going on with the affair. The idea to be followed is on the same lines as the Otorohanga Sale Yards Company, and the thanks of the union were accorded to Mr W. Vicary, of Otorohanga, for his valuable information on the matter. The prospectus of the proposed Auckland Provincial Farmers' Trading and Indenting Association, Ltd., was read and approved by the meeting.
