The following are the rates of death duty charged in New Zealand: —If the successor is the wife of the deceased, or a child, grandchild, or other descendant of the deceased, no succession ducy is payable in respect of any such succession the value of which does not exceed £20,000; if,it exceeds £20,000 the duty is 2 per cent., save that the duty shall not ecxeed the amount by which the value of the succession exceeds £20,000. The rates of death duty are as follows: - Up to £SOO, none; over £SOO and not exceeding £IOOO 1 per cent.; £lOOl to £2OOO, 2 per cent.; £2OOI to £3OOO, 24 per cent.; £3OOI to £4OOO, 3 per cent.; £4OOI to £SOOO, 3 1-3 per cent.; £SOOI to £6OOO, 3 2-3 per cent. ; £6OOI to £7OOO, 4 percent.; £7OOI to £BOOO, 4 1-3 per cent.; £BOOI to £9OOO, 4 2-S per cent.; £9OOI to £IO,OOO, 5 per cent. ; £IO,OOI to £12,000, 5 1-3 per cent.; £12,001 to £l4, 000, 5 2-3 per cent.; £14,001 to £15,000, 6 percent.; £16,001 to £lB/000, 6 1-3 per cent.; £IB,OOI t0.£20,000, 6 2-3" per cent.; £20,001 ti £25,000, 7 per cent.; and an additional 1-3 per cent, for every £SOOO or part of £SOOO in excess of £25,000, with a maximum of 15 per cent.
