FIRE IN TE KUITI.

About half-past seven o'clock on Thursday night Mr Corban, of Messr* Corban and Co., discovered a small outbreak of fire in a detached washhouse at the rear of his store. The fire was also noticed by others and an alarm was raised. Engine driver Craise, of the railway department, blew the whistle of his engine long and loud, and this promptly drew out the members of the Fire Brigade, who, under Captain Ford and Foreman Nicholson, were "* soon on the spot. Without helmets-or uniforms, or water power available the men went quickly to work, and within a very short time the bucket brigade was hard at it and soon had the fire under control. Great credit is due to them for the energetic way in which they all worked. The cause of the fire is unknown, as no one had been using the room for oyer a week bfcfore the accident.
