Ohura Valley.

A large number of settlers attended the meeting at Mangaroa arranged to meet Mr Scbmitt, organising secretary .of the Farmers' Union. Mr Meredith, Pbhaicman, in introducing Mr Schmitt, explained the position as decided by the former meeting as a result of which they had requested the Union to allow the organising secretary to attend that evening to the work and objects of the Union. The secretary gave a very interesting account of the work done by the Union and explained the many advantages to members and a sketch of the futuie prospects of progress. In answer to a question he stated that the Union was prepared to co-operate with ail the public bodies in urging the early start of the Ongarue-Stratford line. Personally from what he had seen of the district he was more than satisfied that it would be payable. As he understood the route was definitely settled he would use all his knowledge to further their railway interests. After it was explained as to allocation of the different items it was resolved that the subscripted be ten shillings per year. All present were enrolled. tt was resolved on the motion of Mr Stevenson that the Minister be urged to erect, the Mangaroa Po3t Office as provided on the last Estimates as soon as the roads are open for traffic ana to point out that the required timber can be cut at once. A meeting of intending members of the Ohura Mounted Rifles was held to enroll the names of intending members. Mr Martin explained the progress made and gave particulars of accoutrements provided. The meeting was adjourned to the evening of the 2nd July. The football match between Matiere and Niho Niho, played at Niho Niho, resulted in a win for Niho Niho by six to nil. During the half-time spell Mrs Julian provided tea and cake for the teams. Arrangements are being made N to form a Union of the Ohura clubs, and for Matiere to play Mangaroa at Toi Toi for the Hyde banner on the 2nd July.
