Addition to Kawhia County.
To the Editor. Sir,—ln your issue of June Ist, a note by your Marakopa correspondent stated that a petition was in circulation and was being largely signed, praying for the merging of that part of the Awakino County from Tirau Point along the old Native line to Mangaohae (Kiritehere, Moeatoa and Poneirangi districts) into the Kawhia County. Well, sir, the petition has not arrived yet to my knowledge in any of those districts, and I am afraid when it does that the settlers in any of those districts will not sigin it. I, for one, and many more that I know certainly object to the Kawhia County for many reasons—the Native lands trouble being the principal objection. Of course, those at the bottom of the "move" are aware of the fine block of rateable country that would come into their hands for administration. Kiritehere, Moeatoa and Poneirangi settlers are quite willing to remain in an inoperative County until such time as things are ripa for the formation of a Council to govern their own affairs.—l am. etc., SETTLER. Kiritehere, June 10th.
