MEETING OF HOUSEHOLDERS.

The adjourned annual meeting of householders to elect a school committee for the Te Kuiti district for the ensuing year was held in the schoolhouse on Monday night. There was a fair attendance, and Mr Jones presided.

In reply to the chairman, who asked if any member of the late committee had any report to lay before the meeting dealing with last year's operations. Mr Chilcott said that Mr Sims, who was chairman of the committee, and was at present absent from the district, had evidently overlooked the matter of the report. He (Mr Sims) had been most attentive in the discharge of his duties, and he (Mr Chilcott) regretted., that Mr Sims was not present to give an account of last year's work. Mr Chilcott said that he understood there as a deficit of £2 or £3 on the picnic fund last year, but against this there was a credit balance from previous years. There was a balance to credit of the general school fund.

Twelve householders were then nominated as school committeemen for the ensuing year, and Mr Power was appointed scrutineer. As the result of the ballot the following were elected as the incoming committee: The Revs. Mitchell, Wayne, and Potts, Dr Zobel, and Messrs Finlay, Lineham, and D. Young. On the motion of Mr Potts, seconded by Mr Finlav, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the retiring committee for their valuable services.

Mr Finlay proposed: That a hearty vote of thanks be accorded Mr Power and staff for the good work they had done during the past year. The proposer said that the attendance at the school was good, the discipline splendid, the work of the staff had been commended by the Board's inspector, and the school was considered one of the best in the Board's district. Mr Power returned thanks. The teaching staff had worked hard with good results, and he hoped that this good work would continue. Mr Chilcott said that efforts had been made by the committee last year to get the Education Board to provide additional acommodation at the school, but without success.

Mr C. B. Lever urged that strong representations should be made to the Board in regard t« the inadequate school accommodation, and he moved accordingly. Mr Petherick seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. The customary compliment having been paid to the chairman, the meeting terminated.

At a meeting of the newly-appointed committee, the Rev. Mitchell was appointed chairman, and it was decided to meet at 7.30 p.m. on Monday next.
