Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Hamilton, report: —

We held our opening sale in the Te Uku saleyards on Wednesday, the 25th inst., when a fair yarding of cattle were submitted for sale. The bidding was slow at first on account nf the vendors' reserves being somewhat high. However, bidding became more spirited as the sale proceeded. Most of the lines sold under the hammer with the exception of one or two pens which were disposed of afterwards. We quote as follows: —3 year steers £3 18s, 2J year steers £3 ss, 2 year steers £2 15s, 18 month steers £2 to £2 10s, calves 25s to 265, heifers in calf £4 14s to £5 10s.

At Hamilton on Thursday 26th inst., a fair yarding of sheep and cattle came forward and sold well with the exception of store lambs and beef, for which there was little demand. Forward wethers 15s 6d, fat steers, small £5 17s 6d, fat cows £3 15s, fat heifers £4 15s, store cows £2 15s, 2 year steers £4 4s, 18 month steers £2 16s, empty heifers £2 ss, heifers in calf, small £3 19s, small yearling heifers £2 16s 6d, veals £1 to £1 4s 6d, springers £4 to £6 10s, heifers.£s 2s 6d. Pigs—Slip3 9s 6d to 13s, weaners 5s to 7s 4d.

On Friday, 27th inst., we held our usual monthly stock sale at Ngaruawahia, when a small yarding of cattle came forward. Our entries comprised two and three big lines of 2 and 2\ year steers, for which there were buyers from long distances, but unfortunately the lines did not come forward. and we would impress upon our clients the necessity of bringing any lines they may enter on the day of the sale, as it is most disappointing to those who come forward anticipating a good yarding. Fat heifers £4 2s, empty heifers £3 10s to £3 12s, empty cows £1 17s to £3, forward 3 year steers £4 ss, 2\ year steers £3 10s, calves £1 5s to £1 9s.

We held our usual weekly sale of fat stock at Westfield saleyards on Wednesday, 25th May, asunder: —Beef--An average yarding. Prices ruled much the same as the previous week. Choice and good quality pens of prime ox sold at an average of 21s to 21s 6d per lOOlbs, cow and heifer beef fetched 16s to 19s.according to quality. Veal —A fair entry. Prime calves were in good demand and sold at full rates, heavy fetching to £2 10s, light 15s to 30s, others 2s and upwards. Mutton —A goodjyarding. Prices were steady and sold at equal to last week's rates. Choice extra heavy wethers fetched up to 22s 9d, prime medium weight wethers 15s 6d to 18s, light 14s to 15s, heavy ewes sold up to 16s, medium 12s to 14s. Lamb —A fairly large entry. Heavy well finished lambs sold up to 14s, medium 10s to 12s, small and inferior 6s to Bs. Pork —A small entry. Prices were a shade better than the previous week. On Thursday, 26th inst., the u=?ual store and dairy sale was held. Good dairy cows are in good demand at from £7 to £9. Store cattle were in poor demand.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— On Tuesday, May 31st, we held a clearing sale of Mr V. Hattaway's contracting plant, horses, etc. There was a good attendance of buyers and public,: and we can report a fairly successful sale. The heavy draught horses suitable foi- city work were not all required, but horses for waggon and light road work sold well Active heavy geldings made from £2B 10s to £33, mares suitable for waggoners £24 to £27, aged geldings, from £l7s 10s to £2O, buggies up to £ls, timber waggons £27, drays £lO 10s to £ll ss. The harness and sundries were all disposed of at satisfactory prices. We offered about 30 horses on account of other vendors. Medium draughts sold from £lB to £2l, weedy hacks £6 10s to £9 15s, ponies £3 15s to £5, good harne'ss horses up to £22. We held a clearing sale at Roto-o-rangi on Thursday last, on account of Messrs A. and J. McPherson. The cattle, dairy cows and horses, sqld at good prices. Dairy cows to calve in August and September, made from £6 to £8 7s 6d, calves £1 17a od, draught gelding £35, buggy mare £ls, dray sll, drill £lO, tools, harness, etc., at usual rates,
