KAWHIA COUNTY COUNCIL.

cAn ordinary meeting of the Kawhia County Council was held at the County office, Kawhia, on May 21st. Present —Crs W. J. Shaw (chairman), G. S. Jonathan, A. W. Elliott, R. T. Davies, A. W. Babbage and Jas. Kearns. The clerk Raglan County Council wrote with reference to a read at Te Mata, which required surveying, and suggesting that the Kawhia County Council contribute towards the cost. — It was decided that the Counicl could not see its way to contribute at present. The Waikato Hospital Board applied for the annual contribution. —As there was a considerable discrepancy between the valuation shown by the Board and that given by the Valuation Department, it was resolved to make further enquiry before paying the contribution. The Marine Department granted authority to the Council to shift the beacdns which has become necessary through the altering of the channel on the bar. The Postal Department*notified the Council that in response to the Council's representations no alteration would be made in the mail service from the railway at present. The chairman and Cr Babbage were authorised to make all arrangements for the disposal of the unlet harbour endowments at an ear!y date. It was decided to request the Department to put in hand the expenditure of the balance of the vote (£126) for the Kawhia-Pirongia road, in putting the road in order as far as the money will go. A letter was presented by Cr Jonathan, signed by four residents in the Waiharakeke riding, objecting to the proposals of the Council as to the spending of the £BOO grant for the Mahoenui-Kawhia road. —After considerable discussion it was resolved that the letter be returned to the senders to be forwarded through the proper channel.
