OTOROHANGA.
Own Correspondent. - The school committee election was held in Turner's Hall on Monday week. The' following were elected: —Messrs F. Forster (chairman), M. Cowley, R. Green, L. Larsen, W. H. Clarke, R. T. Rhodes and H. Burnand. The funeral of the late Douglas who i's a brother of that wellknown settler, Mr W. H. Clarke, took place last Tuesday, the remains being followed by a large number of relations and friends. A meeting of subscribers to the children 7 s picnic fund was held recently, when the report and balancesheet was read, which showed a balance of £l4 10s. A discussion took placed as to whether a part or whole of the balance should be donated to street improvement, and on the voice of the meeting it wa? decided to bank the amount to the credit of the children's picnic fund. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies' committee and the honorary secretary, Mr R. Green, for their valuable and untiring services. The gravelling of footpaths and general improvement to the town occupied the attention of a number of our leading lights at a meeting held in Mason's Rooms on Saturday, 23rd April. Mr Frank Forster occupied the chair. It was decided to gravel the footpath from Messrs Green and Colebrook's, Ltd. shop to Newton's corner, and from Kerr's to Cowley corner, and also from Ormsby's butcher shop to the police station. As Otorohanga is not blessed with a local body money is needed to carry out these improvements. A subscription was started in the room and a sum of £lO was collected, besides the names of owners who would [jut drays and teams at the committee's disposal. The following were elected a committee to carry out the improvements:— Messrs R. Green, L. Larsen, M. Cowley, J. Ormsby, W. H. Clarke and H. Isaac, with F. W. Whyte as hon. sec. A meeting of suppliers and shareholders of the New Zealand Dairy Association, Ltd., was held in Turner's hall last week, when Mr Wesley Spragg, the managing director, was present, and gave a brief outline of the season's business. Mr Spragg expressed himself more than pleased with the local creamery's output, which he stated amounted to a little over half a ton per week. He further stated that a quantity bonus of Jd would be paid, together with Id per lb profit bonus, which with 9d per lb already advanced, brings the amount paid cut to suppliers here to 10Jd. This, considering the local creamery only started its operations in November last, is very creditable. After the meeting, Mr Wesley Spragg and Mr D. V. Bryant, directors of the New Zealand Dairy Association, together with Mrs Spragg and daughter, left on a visit to the Waitomo Caves.
