The Polling.

Polling for a Mayor and Council for Te Kuiti was proceeding slowly as we went to press. The weather, fortunately, proved fine, if dull, and a very large number of votes are expected to be recorded during the day. A considerable number of Maori votes were polled this morning. Some of the candidates were actively engaged in bringing voters up to the poll. Owing, to the very heavy list of candidates it is not expected that (he result of the poll will be declared before a late hour, if at all to-night. Probably the successful candidate for the Mayoralty will be known between 8 and 9 p.m., but the selected nine Councilors cannot be given until later. A "Chronicle" extra will be issued either to-night or to-morrow morning, giving the full results.
