New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report:— At Ohaupo on Tuesday, 26th inst., we yarded 650 head of cattle, all clasess being well represented. There was only a moderate demand, and several pens of calves and 2J year steers failed to reach reserves, but heifers, in calf, especially Jersey and Holstein cross sold well; H year steers made £5 7s 6d, 20 month steers, choice £3 ss, 15 month steers £2 6s to £2 9s, calves £1 Is to £1 lis, 2 year Holstein heifers in calf 5g t) 6| guineas, Shorthorns £3 10s to £4 ss, yearling Jersey heifers £2 4s to £2 10s, fat caws £4 10s to £5 6s, weaners 10s. At Matamata last Wednesday we had a full yarding of cattle and sheep, which mostly sold at the hammer or afterwards, although bidding was rather dull for steers of all ages, but calves, fat and forward cows and heifers in calf sold well. Fat co.ws made £4 15s to £5 6s, fat heifers £4 9s, cows in forward condition £3 6s to £3 15s, store cows £2 to £2 10s, 2 to 2J year steers £3 14s, 20 month steers £2 13s to £2 15s, good calves £1 4s to £l-Ss, others 17s to £1 Is, 2 year heifers in calf £4 to 4 13s, 15 to 18 month heifers £2 2s to £2 10s, dairy cows close to profit £4 15s to £5 10s, springing heifers £5 5s to £5 17s 6d, 12 working .bullocks and gear £BS. Woolly lambs 5s 6d to Bs, fat lambs lis, 2 tooth wethers 10s 4d, fat ewes 13s, empty store ewes 6s 3d to 6s 6d, aged ewes in lamb 5s to 7s 9d, weaner pigs 7s 6d to 11, good slips 17s. We held our Hamilton sale last Thursday, and penned 250 fat sheep, 65 fat cattle, 300 stores and springers and 50 pigs. There was no competition for .sheep at auction, but all sold afterwards as also did the beef. Store cattle were dull of sale, but dairy cows and heifers close to profit sold well. Fat cows made from £4 5s to 5 2s, fat heifers £4 10s to £5 ss, small fat steers £5 10s, 2 to 2J year steers £3 14s, 2 year heifers £2 15s, calves 19s to 255, springing heifers up to £6 10s, dairy cows close to profit £5 to £6 17s 6d, backward £3 10s to £3 12s 6d, Jersey cow £ll, bulls £3 15s to £4 2s 6d. Fat wethers 15s, ewes lis 9tl, lambs 10s 3d.* Weaner pigs 55 to 9s 6d, good slirjs 16s to 16s 6d, young breedings £2~12s 6d.
The Farmers' Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report: — At Cambridge on 29th inst., we yarded 400 head of cattle. Fat steers £7 10s, fat cows and heifers £4 6s to £4 15s, 18 month steers £2 15s to £3 2s 6d, store and fresh cows £2 19s to £3 lis, choice Holstein heifers in calf 64 guineas, springing heifers £5, good calves 26s to 325, others 15s to 19s. Fat sheep 16s 6d. Weaner pigs 4s to 10s, slips lis to 17s. Poultry—White leghorns 4s to 9s 6d each, black orpingtons Bs, Wyandottes 4s to 4s 6d. HIDES, SKINS AND TALLOW SALE. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd , Auckland, report having held their usual weekly hides, skins and tallow sale on Tuesday, 26th April, clearing a large catalogue. Hides Market keeping firm. Extra stout ox B£d, stout 7d to 7|d, medium 6Jd to 6id, light 5Ad to 6|d; cow, best lines to 6gd, good lines 6d to 6|d, inferior s£d to sfd; stags 4£d to 4§d; kips 6d to 6Jd; calf, best B£d, good 6£d to 7d; damaged hides 3d to 4rl. Sheepskins—Market brisk. Butchers' best pelts and lambs to 3s lOd, good 3s to 3s 6d, medium 2s 6d to 2s 9d, small Is 4d to 2s, dry skins, large to 5s 6d. Tallow—Market continues firm. Best mixed 28s, good 26s 6d, medium 22s to 235; rough fat l§d to Ifd per lb. Cow tails—ls 8d per dozen. Horse hair Is to Is 6Jd per lb. Bones—£4 17s 6d per ton.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London office, under date 29th April: —"Frozen meat —Quotation New Zealand prime ox beef, feres 3gd, hinds 4£d, demand for New Zealand lamb better; New Zealand crossbred Canterbury lamb, heavy s|d, light s&d; North Island heavy 4gd, light 4|d. Demand for New Zealand mutton limited; quotation for New Zealand crossbred Canterbury mutton, heavy 31d, light 4Jd; North Island, heavy 3sd, light 3|d. Demand for New Zealand beef active, market firmer. Demand for Australian lamb fair. Quotations Australian good, average quality crossbred, heavy 4£d. light 4£d; mutton, heavy 3Jd, light 3Jd. A fair business doing. Sales have taken place for May shipment at New Zealand prime crossbred Canterbury lamb 4Jd, Southland 4Jd; prime crossbred Canterbury mutton 3fd.
