The Farmers' Auctioneering Company report: — We held a clearing sale atMatamata on Thursday last, on behalf of Mr George Smith, and have to report a most successful sale. There was a large attendance and spirited bidding throughout. The dairy herd of thirty cows averaged £6 10s, the best cows making £7 to [£S 10s, others £-5 £o £6 15s, 18-months heifers in calf £3 to £3 ss, 2-year Holstein heifer in calf 8J guineas, forward 2& and 3-year steers £5 12s 6d, 2 and 2i-year steers £4 9s; medium draught geldings £3O 10s to £36, mare £3O, light draught £22 10s; calves 25s to 31s; two sows and young £3, slips 18s; four-tooth ewes 17s fid, forward lambs 9s 3d, storeiambs 6s 3d. At Waihou yards on Friday, Bth inst., we yarded 950 head of cattle, 100 pigs and 480 sheep. Prices for all classes were about the same as those ruling in Waikato. Small fat steers made £6 to £6 17s 6d, fat cows and heifers £5 53 to £6, lighter sorts £3 17s 6d to £4 10s, forward conditioned 3 and steers £5 Is to £5 13 1, 2J-year to 3-year steers £4 14s to £4 15s, 2-year and steers £3 14s to £4, strong calves 22s to 30s, others 18s, empty 18-months heifers £2 2s 6d, same age in calf £3 4s, 2year heifers in calf £4 10s, springing heifers £5; fat ewes 13s, older sheep 7s to 10s, forward wethers 12s to 12i 3d, store wethers 10s 9d, fat lambs 10s to lis, stores 6s 3d to 7s; pigsslips 14s 6d to 20s, weaners 5s to 10s. HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. Mutton—fhe market is weaker with & tendency downward, on account of high prices, and shipments are being made from the Continent. The average price of Canterbury mutton is 4gd per lb, North Island mutton 4|d. Lamb—There is a good demand for all descriptions. The average price of Canterbury lamb is s|d per lb, other New Zealand s£d. Beef—The market is dull. Supplies of . American chilled beef are large. The average price of New Zealand hindquarters is 4|d, forequarters 3|d. Australian chilled quarters, per Marathon, realised 3£d per lb. The hindquarters reported in the previous week spld at about 3|d. .gutter —The market is firm, with a gardening tendency. The average prige for the week for choicest New Zealand putter is 123s per cwt, Qheese—The market is steady, demand only moderate. The average price of New Zealand finest white cheese is 62s per cwt, coloured 60s 6d. Cheese transhipped from the Kaipara is making Is per cwt. less. Hemp—The market is dull for New Zenland. Prices on spot are: Good to fair £24 10s per ton, fair £23 10a (nominal) ; April to June shipment of good to fair £24, fair £23. Stock of New Zealand hemp on hand 208 tons; week's output of hemp at Manila 32,000 bales. - -
