PIO PIO.
Own Correspondent. Things still continue to be lively here. It is getting more like London every day. Last Wednesday saw no fewer than ten waggons in the nlace at one time. The builder has got to work with the factory and has got the boiler house finished, and Mr Lewis' new stables are finished also. The sound of the hammer is going all day. Mr J. Smith has let the contract to build his house. I was pleased to see the boiler and fittings for the factory on the ground as it looked as if the road would break before they arrived. There was a slight scare over a little sickness. It was rumoured that typhoid fever had broken out in the district, and it was reported to the Health Office. Inspector Bennet was very soon on the scene and made a searching investigation of the district and reported that there was nothing to be afraid of. The Health Department deserves every praise for the manner in which they attended to the matter as showing how quick they took the wires up. It was only three days from the time the report left here that Inspector Bennett was on the scene. Mr Rothery is getting on well with his metalling contract. Rumour has it that Mr V. S. Hattaway is going to donate a section for a hall, and a movement is on foot to start to raise funds to build such a building. Our local butcher had his shop opened on Saturday, and is doing good business. He was sold out by 5 o'clock and is going to open three days a week. Mr McKay is doing good business with his hairdressing saloon and billiard room. I see the directors of the saleyards are getting on. They are getting the timber on the ground. There is going to be a lot of bush felling in the district this year and there seem co be plenty of men avail able.
