One of the best proofs of New Zealands' prosperity which the Hon. J. A. Millar (Minister of Railways) gave to a Sydney interviewer upon his arrival in Australia was to quote last year's returns from the New Zealand railways. It is quite evident that the Minister has gone a long way towards realising his ideal of making the railways self-supporting. Mr Millar pointed out that very fair criterion of the spending power of a people was usually furnished by the railway returns. The year just ended, he said, would pfove to have been, in point of railway Revenue, one of the best New Zealand has experienced. The receipts from both passengers and goods have heeti excellent. It \yas toq early yet tq give any figures, but he was aule to say that while his estimate at the beginning of the year was 050,000, the actual result was likely to be sonicthing in the neighbourhood of ,\>V 250,000. A simple way to keep mirrors and other glasses polished is to rub them all over with some tissue paper. Any stains or fly marks also can be removed
