THAT SECRET MINE.
- "The secret is not out," said the Hon. R. McKenzie, Minister for Mines, when the statement made by Mr J. W. Ellis, of Hamilton, regarding the site of the proposed State coal mine in the North Island was referred to him by a "Herald" representative. "I am not in a position to"say-whether Mr Ellis 'or the TEngineer-in-Chief o| Public Works discovered this particular seam of coal, when locating the Main Trunk line, but I aro in a position to say that neither. Mr nor Mr Holmes reported anything about it to the Public Works Department. Further, the locality stated it} th? paragraph submitted to ppe by no means* corresponds with the locality of the seam which the Mines Department has located and which it is expected will turn PVlt to be vety valuable. The site is at present being prospeeted in order to ascertain the extent of the find, and I hope to be able to a definite announcement on the subject^ l—n -
