KAWHIA COUNTY COUNCIL.
Special Meeting.
A special meeting of the Kawhia County Council was held at Kawhia on 19th inst. Present— Crs W. J. Shaw (chairman), G. G. Jonathan, A, W. Elliott, R. T. Davies, J. E. Noonan, A. W. Babbage and Jas. Kearns. The new harbour by-law, to operate for and within the limits of the Kawhia harbour, was adopted. This bylaw will come into force on April 15th, 1910.
The ordinary meeting of the Council was held on the conclusion of special business, the same members being present. The Under-Secretary, Public Works Department, wrote re expenditure of road votes by the Council, stating that as the Council declined to undertake the expenditure of these votes the same would be expended by the department as soon as possible. The UnderSecretary wrote similarly re the vote for the Marakopa Vailey road. The Department notified the Council that a report was being obtained as to the condition of the Puongia West road. —The Council decided to undertake the expenditure of the balance of a grant for the Kawhia to Marakopa river road, amounting to £BOO, as this money could conveniently be expended in conjunction with the loan money at present being spent on this road.
In connection with the bridge required over the Awaitc stream on the Awaroa-Mahoe road, the Public Works Department wrote stating that the District Engineer was going carefully into the queston of the proposed expenditure of grants for roail and bridge work in the County.
In regard t:> .the road acees3 to the harbour endowments the Department wrote regretting that it had been impossible to make pi - ovisoin on the current year's Estimates for these roads.
