VALEDICTORY.

On Monday evening last a large number of Mr Ernie Kerr's friends met together to say farewell to him, Mr Kerr having just sold out his interest in the Temperance Hotel. Mr J. Mclndoe occupied the chair. A toast-list was gone through which included the following:—-"The King" ; "Territorial Forces," coupled with the names of Messrs Kirkby -and Nicholson; "The Guest of the evening." At this stage the chairman presented Mr Kerr with a handsome traveller's companion and in asking Mr Kerr to accept same, as a small token of the esteem in which he was held by his fellow men in Te Kuiti, stated that genuine regret was felt at Mr Kerr's departure and he (the speaker) wished Mr Kerr the best of good luck in his new venture. _Mr Kerr feelingly responded. Mr Sims proposed the toast of the "New Proprietor," Mr King, who responded. Toast "Te Kuiti" was proposed by Mr Darrow and responded to by Mr Young. Other toasts honoured were: —"The Prospective Mayor of Te Kuiti," coupled with the name of Mr F. Simi. Mr Sims in his reply remarked that it was his intention to stand as Mayor; "The Ladies," "The Press," and "The Host and Hostess." During the evening songs were given by the following:—Messrs Foster, Blackman, Lusk, Tailor, E. Kerr and J. Pitcon, Mr Jack Hetet playing the accompaniments in each case.
