LONDON WOOL MARKET.

A Strong Market. A cable from the High Commissioner, dated March 8, says:—"The wool sales commenced today with an active demand. Merinos and fine medium crossbreds are selling fully at last sale's prices; coarse crossbred slightly lower. Trade is good and likely to continue so; prospects very favourable. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following cablegram dated March 8, from the London office: — "The sales have opened with strong competition and large attendance of buyers. There is a good demand for all kinds of crossbred wool. Prices are unchanged. The market is strong for all kinds of merino. Prices are higher par to per cent. The demand is active. Current prices for North Island farmers' lots, Palmerston North style : —Coarse crossbreds, 36's to 40's, quality average condition, to lid per lb; medium crossbreds, 44's to 46's, quality average condition, 12|d to 13d per lb; fine crossbreds, 50's, quality average condition, 13Jd to 14Jd per lb." The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cable dated March 8, from their London house: —"There was a full attendance at the opening of the wool sales today, competition by Home and Continental buyers being active. The opening catalogues were fairly representative. As compared with the closing rates at last series of sales prices ruled about the same for fine crossbred and medium crossbred, about par to five per cent lower for coarse crossbred, and about par to five per cent higher for greasy merino. America is buying suitable lots of crossbred wool.
