Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report having held their weekly sale at Westfield on Thursday, 3rd inst., as follows:—Beef. —An average yarding. The demand was good and prices were about 5s per head better than last week. Prime ox made up to 21s 6d per lOOlbs, prime heifer and cow up to 19s per lOOlbs. Mutton. —A large yarding of good to medium quality wethers and ewes. Prices were on a par with last sale. Prime wethers extra heavy to 18s; heavy, 15s 6d to 17s; light wethers 12s to 14s 6d; fat ewes extra heavy to 16s; heavy to 14s; light 9s to 12s. Lambs. —A large 3'arding. Heavy tags fetched to 14s 9d; heavy lis 6d to 12s 6d; heavy shorn tegs to 12s; medium weights 9s 6d to 10s 6d. Pigs.—A small yarding. Porkers fetched 21s to 28s, baconers to 38s, weaners to 6s 6d.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Auckland, report having held their usual sales of hides, skins, tallow, etc., on Tuesday Ist inst., clearing a large catalogue under good competition at late rates: Hides Market firm. We quote extra stout ox Sf, stout to 7Jd, medium 7d to 7Jd, light 6 : fd to 6i; cow best lines to 7d, good lines 6Jd to 6£d, inferior s£d to 6d; stags, 4|d to 4|d; kips 6d to 6|d; calf be-jt to 9d, good 64d to 7£ : d; damaged hides 3d to 4d. Sheepskins.—-Market brisk. Best butchers large to 8s 6d, good 6s to 7s, medium 4s Gd to ss, small 3s 6d to 4s, pelts and lambs to 3s 6d, seconds 2s 3d to 2s 9d, dry skins large to 5s 9d. Tallow,—Market continues firzn. Best mixed 275, good 265, inferior 21s 6d to 22s 9d. Rough fat l§d to lfd per lb. Cow tail 3ls 8d per dozen. Horse hair la to Is Gd per lb. Bones £4 17s 6d per ton. Demand for New Zealand beef fair; market firm; market for lamb firm; mutton firmer. Demand for Australian lamb good; quotations for Australian good average quality crossbred lamb heavy 4§d, mutton heavy 3Jd, light 3§d. New Zealand crossbred Canterbury mutton-dear owing to your prospects for production unfavourable. Prices will probably decline when arrivals are heavier. Sheepskins. —Combing skins par to -Jd higher since our last wire, clothing skins id lower. Tallow.—ln general 3d to 6d higher since last wire, but prices are no better c.i.f. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having held their ordinary monhtly stock sale in the Hamilton sajeyards on Saturday, sth March, when a fair yarding of cattle and sheep came forward, although not as many as were advertised —no doubt due to the sale being held on an odd day on account of the Cambridge A. and P.- Association's Show clashing with our usual date The sale, however, was brisk, and nearly everything was the hammer, and a fair clearance qf the yard was effected afterv/arcjs. The Farmers' Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— At Waihou, on the sth inst., we held a successful clearing sale on behalf of Mr. Walter Farmer. The 30 dairy cows made from £3 10s to £8; Jersey cross heifers, l|gs; Massey Harris drill, £23; d.f. plough, £l4; farm horses, £7 10s to £23; sundries and tools at usual rate's. '
We held our second Qhaupo sheepi fair last Tuesday, and have to. report a really good sale. We yarded 20,400 sheep, of which 5491 lambs, 11,486 ewes' and 1523 wethers were sold. The sheep penned were well grown, and of good quailty, and met with keen competition, with the exception. of full mouth and aged ewes, which were decidedly lower. Buyers were present from all parts of the province. We quote;— Fat lambs, woolly, lis 4d; forward lambs, woolly, 8s lOd to 9s 6d; fat and forward shorn lambs, 8s Id to 8s 9d; others, 5s lid to 7s; culls, 3s 3d to ss; two tooth ewes, 14s 6d to 17s Id; four and six tooth ewes, 12s 6d to 15s 2d; others, lis 6d; sound full mouth ewes, lis to 21s 4d; failing mouth ewes, 7s to 10s; cull ewes, 4s to ss; fat wethers, 13s 6d to 14s sd; forward wethers, lis to 12s 9d; small/wethers,- 8s 3d to 10s.
