OTOROHANGA RACES.
The Otorohanga section of the Waikato No. 2 Mounted Rifles held a military gymkhana on Saturday afternoon last, when exhibitions of various military manoeuvres were given in conjunction with the races. The weather was brilliant, and the attendance should have been larger, considering the various attractions. Following are the results of the six races held: —
Handicap Hurdles, of £5, second £l. Distance miles. —Bonnie Roy 1, Porangi 2. Three started. Otorohanga Maiden Scurry, of £2, second 10s Distance 6 furlongs.— Lady Dora 1, Wairua 2. Four started. Kareanui Cup Handicap, 'of £B, second 30 5. Distance 3J miles. —Titahi 1, Korari 2. Six started. Fying Handicap, of £4, second 30s. Distance 6 furlongs.—Kaingaroa 3, Wairua 2, Titahi 3. Eleven started. Troopers' Race, of £2, second 303. Distance 1 mile. —Porangi 1, Tokonui 2. Six started.
Mr. Frank Forster acted as judge, Mr. A. Ormsby was an efficient secretary, and Mr. J. F. Day was handicapper. Mr. J. Henderson was clerk of course, and Mr. B. Clark clerk of scales.
The volunteers gave exhibitions of Lloyd-Lindsay, Victoria Cross, Leading, Scouts, and Tent-pegging work.
