OPARURE SPORTS.

The above sport 3 were held at Oparure on Thursday last. The attendance was not as large as it should have been, but this was to be expected as the committee were late in notifying their intention to hold a meeting. This also applies to the competitors. Many more competitors .would have put in an appearance had they been aware that the sports were to be held. It will be advinable for the committee to make their pi-eliminary arrangements at an earlier dale next year.

The following are. the results of the various events:—

Run 100 yards, chop Biach block, and run back to starting point.—A. Pretty 1, Dumphy 2, Mattscn 3; Nine started. Maiden Chop.—A. Tagg 1, Dumphy 2. Handicap Chop.—Dumphy 1, Tu Rora 2. Seven started. This event was an exciting one. the fini-ih being very close, there being only a difference of two blows between first and second.

Pony Race, one mile. —Toi 1, Ma Jack 2. Five started.

Championship Chop.—Pcroaki 1, Tagg 2. Six started. Underhand Chop. —Tu Rora 1, Dumphy 2." The committee worked hard to make the meeting a successful one, but the intervals between events were too long. In future both competitors and spectators would enjoy the meeting more if the committee would get the logs ready before the chopping events come on, and thus save a lot of unnecessary delay.
