TE KUITI SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

+ The usual monthly meeting of the above committee was held on Monday evening last at the "Chronicle" office. Present: Messrs F. H. Sims (chairman), and Sellar, Nicholson, Chilcott, and Dillicar.

It was decided to give the children a holiday all day on Wednesday (to-day). Mr. Chilcott raised the question of burying diseased cattle on the banka of the river in shallow holes, where they would be soaked by the water and contaminate the river. Children bathed in the water and ran serious risks.

The chairman promised to draw the attention of the police to it. Meanwhile, there was no local authority, and, consequently no one seemed to be responsible. Mr Sellars thought it should be optional whether parents preferred to buy the school books for their children or not. Some children were still using the old books, the Board not having provided the new ones. He would rather buy his own. Hig lad was using an old book now, which held him back. It was left in the chairman's hands to see the schoolmaster about it.

The secretary of the Education Board wrote saying that the request of the committee for the enlargement of the school building had been, referred tq the Inspector for his report. The headmaster wrote that Hiss Parkes had been absent ill, as from last Thursday, and asking that the Board be wired to for a relieving teacher.

The chairman had wired as desired, and the secretary replied that Miss Annie S. Cumming, would be sent as from Monday last. '■".' The usual quarterly allowance to the school fund of £ll 3s was placed to the credit of the account by the Board on January 31st. A few small' accounts were passed for payment.
