HAMILTON SUPREME COURT.
The Hamilton Supreme Court was opened on Monday morning before his Honor, Mr Justice Edwards. There was a large gathering of members of the local Bar and local Justices of the Peace. Mr. A. Swarbrick, on behalf of the Bar, welcomed his Honor to Hamilton. Judge Edwards briefly responded. The Grand Jury was then sworn, and returned True Bills in the following cases:— Kore Kore Hamilton and Paddy Barlow, theft.
Henry Sinclair, breaking and entering, theft and receiving. John Mm tern Paull, attempted murder, discharging a firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and assault with intent to rob.
George Mallinson, arson, theft and receiving stolen goods. Naomi Adele Day Peacock, arson and counselling and procuring arson. In the case of M. A. Margaret Runciman, .charged with murder of an infant at Waihi, the Grand Jury returned no True Bill, but returned a True Bill against her for concealment of birth.
Rudolph Ernest Koberstein who had pleaded guilty in the Lower Court to thefts of cattle at Orini, was sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour.
Kenred Ernest Davey, convicted of theft from a dwelling house in Hamilton by the Lower Court, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment with hard labour.
Harry Sinclair, otherwise C. Cosgrovc, charged with breaking and entering and theft from a house at Kirikiriroa, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment on each offence.
Ina Margaret Runciman was charged with concealment of birth at Waihi on' December 2nd, 1909. The common jury was empannelled, and after hearing the evidence of witness, and a touching appeal by counsel for the prisoner, a unanimous verdict of "not guilty" was returned, and prisoner was discharged. On Tuesday morning John Mintern Paull pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of Leslie Ray Jordan and William Fix Langley Ward at Mystery Creek on February Bth. Mr. McDiarmid, who appeared for accused, pleaded' for leniency. His Honor said that prisoner had pleaded guilty to the most serious crime except murder, and sentenced him to seven years' imprisonment with hard labour.
