MYSTERY CREEK MYSTERY.
An Arrest Made.
On Thursday morning, Detective McM'ahon and Constable Bern arrested a Hamilton lad named John Minton Paul], about 18 or 19 years o f age, on a charge of shooting with intent, in connection with the sensational affair on the Ohaupo road on Tuesday morning.
Following up the clue of finding a gun, which was identified as one that had been in his possession, the police found that Paul! had hired a horse from a local stable, and his movements are reported to have been traced to Tamahere, while, it is alleged, he was also seen at Mystery creek with a gun. Accused denies that these allegations are correct, and also denies any knowledge of the gun. Accused is employed by Messrs G. Clark and Sons, grain merchants, but he was not at work on Tuesday morning. Paull was' charged at the Police Court on Friday morning with attempting to murder Leslie Jordan, and was remanded for seven days. Application for bail by Mr C. L. MaeDiarmid, who appeared for accused, and stated that he had been informed by Dr. Douglas that Jordan was out of danger, was refused, as Jordan is still in the Hospital. Mr Jordan, the victim, is progressing satisfactorily.
