KAWHIA'S PROGRESS.
Furchase of Native Lands.
The Hon. Dr. Findlay, accompanied by Captain Wilson and Dr. Fitchett, arrived in Kawhia on Thursday evening.
Replying to the toast of bis health, Dr. Findlay made special reference to the Native Land Bill and its probable stimulus to the progress of Kawhia. He anticipated a great future for the district now that this formidable barrier to its advancement has been removed, and stated that the Government would spend half a million each year for a period of four years (or two millions altogether) in the purchase of Maori land.
Dr. Fitchett, who has acquired property there, also spoke. The party, after a launch excursion round the harbour in the morning, left for Auckland, via Te Awamutu, the Wellington express stopping at Te Awamutu to pick up the Ministerial carriage.
