PAEMAKO.
Own Correspondent.
The first month of the new year has been a fairly good one for-the farmers, though for a couple of weeks there seemed to be every possibility oc a drought setting in. In some parts stock were feeling much the want of water, whilst grass was being burned up. Fortunately, rain came on before matters had gone too far, consequently a splendid recovery has been made, there being plenty of feed at present. The turnips all through the district have been taken by the fly, and will all have to be put in again. If they are again taken it will not be a very good thing for the cattle in the winter time. .
We are all pleased to hear that there is going to be something done on the main road. After all, if we get anything like fine weather, some of the mud holes will get fixed up. The Paernako School Committee are going to have their picnic on Friday, the 18th February, and also a social and dance at night. The picnic is to be held on Mr Watson's farm at Paernako, and the social in the. school room, when all friends will be made welcome: Hot water, tea, and sugar will be supplied by the Committee.
