PAEMAKO.
Own Correspondent,
The settlers picnic which was held in Messrs Johnston Bros.-' paddock on the 27th December was a record one, visitors from all parts being present. Too much praise cannot be given to the settlers, especially the ladies for the manner in which they tried to make the day a pleasant one for the visitors.
On New - Year's Day the annual regatta was held on the Mokau River, a large number of people being present. The diving and horse swimming were the chief events of the day. Most of the farmers are busy sowinsr turnips for the cattle in winter, when there is very little feed for them. Johnston Bros, are sowing about a hundred acres of turnips.
Haymaking is also in full swing, the farmers' are taking advantage of the fine weather. There is a true proverb "Make hay while the sun shines."
Sheep shearing is just about finished, and the output for the season is a record one.
We have the mail coach running through to Mahoenui twice a week, and having the mail twice a week is a great boon to the settlers.
The Paemako School Committee are having their annual school picnic early next month.
