Farmers' Union Meeting.
The ordinary monthly meeting of the Otorohanga branch of the above Union was held on Friday the 10th insL There were present: Mr John Ormsby, chairman, and Messrs R. Matthews, Hudson. Hargrcaves, Cater, Johnson, Willis, Budden, Ross, Wylie, Prime, Budge, Ran by, Vieary, and U. Matthews. The minutes of the p«vto3i meeting were read and duly confirmed. —Correspondence. A large number of letters in connection with the recent banquet to Mr W. T. Jennings, member for the district, on the occasion of the opening of the new post office on the 27th ultimo were placed upon the table. Registrar Births, Deaths, and Marriages.
From the Minister of Internal Affairs to the effect that from inquiries made the number of registrations of births in 1908 that might have been made in Otorohanga was so small and that the creation of small districts meant mete frequent payment? of double marriage fees that the question of the appointment of a Registrar at Otorohanga most stand over for the present. Proposed by Mr Hudson, seconded by Mr H. Matthews that the letter be received.
Proposed as an amendment by Mr Willis, seconded by W. Vieary that the letter te referred back to the Minister through the member fir the district, and that the Secretary further point out, the urgent necessity for granting the request. —Amendment carried. --Native Land Settlement. - •
On Mr Hargreaves' proposal, seconded by Mr Hudson, the proposed disussion on re above question was withdrawn for the present. - County Severance.—
Mr W. Vieary in accordance with a notice of motion given at previous meetings, moved —."That in the opinion of this Branch of the Farmers* Union, the time has arrived when the present Waitomo County should be divided into two, and the northern portion formed into a seperate County to be called the Otorohanga County That a committee be appointed to lay eft the most suitable dividing bocdary. also to obtain the necessary information in regard to the capital value of, and number of ratepayers in the proposed area to be severed, with a view to further submitting the question to a public meeting of ratepayers at a future date. —Mr Budden seconded. After much general discussion as to whether the proposed severance would benefit the district as a whole, the motioo was agreed to.
Upon Mr Hargreaves* proposal, seconded by Mr Ranby. Messrs Vicary, R. S. Matthew, and John Ormsby waes appointed as the Committee to obtain the necessary information in connection with the proposed severMtff, It was further resolved that the notice of Public Meeting to be held be < inserted in the Ancklaiid Weekly News, as well aa the "King Country Chronicle." —Railway Tickets.— Mr Hargreaves moved that the secretary be instructed to write to the Minister of Railways, requesting that the value of Railway tickets be printed thereon. In explanation be said that it was done in the case of excursion and tickets given in the trains. Mr Hudson seconded and carried. —Goods train and Pnssenger Car.— Mr Hargreaves proposed, seconded by Mr Willis, that the Secretary be instructed to write to the Te Kuiti Chamber of Commerce asking them to co-operate with this branch of the Farmers' Union in requesting th? authorities to have a passenger car attached to the goods train in the mornings from Frankton to Taumarunui and back in the evening.—Carried. —Kio Kio Mail Service. - Proposed by Mr A. J. Ross, seconded by Mr Budge, that tbe secretary write to the Chief Postmaster, Auckland, pointing oat that since tbe alterations of the train service and the usual train not stopping at Kio Kio station, th* the mails of that place are being delivered in a moat unsatisfactory manner.—Carried. —Otorohanga Station. —■
Proposed by Mr Willis, seconded by Mr Ranby, that the secretary again briny under the notice of the Minister of Railways the dangerous state of the Otorohanga station through the increased railway traffic. - -Carried. Bulla and Stallions. Propped by R. S. Matthews and seconded by Mr Hudson, that, the secrptary notify the local Constable to out the law in motion in regard to
bolls mod stallions running at large in the township.—Carried. Banquet Accounts. A statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the recent banquet showing a debit balance of £2 Sa 6d was laid on the table.—Mr Hirgreaves proposed and Mr Vieary seconded, that this amount be paid out of the funds of the Union.—Carried. Vote of Thanks. Mr R. S. Matthew* proposed a vote of thanks to the secretary, Mr 11. M. Quinn, for the way he bad worked to tnak** the banquet the success it was. Mr Vieary seconded the motion which was carried unanimously.
