OTOROHANGA.
| Own Correspondent. Plt is with very grvat regret that 1 t have to record the death of the Rev. 'Sanders Spencer at New Plymouth early on the morning of the 15th inst. Sir Spencer who bad formerly been in charge of this district married two years ago a daughter of Mr Wn». Vieary, of Otorohanga. Me shortly | afterwards underwent a serious operaj tion for appendicitis,, from which be never completely regained bis strength, and during the l last few nsocths it was ■ felt by his friends that he could not long survive. The body of the deceased gentleman was brought up by train and interred at Otorohanga on Friday last. Universal sympathy is being extended to the bereaved widow and I relatives in their 3rd affliction. A bazaar in aid of the Otorohanga English Church funds wss held in the Town Hall on the 16th and l«th. There were the usual attractions consisting of stalls, bran tubs. Christmas trees, fortune telling, refreshments, nail driving competitions for ladies, etc., ete. There was a large attendance of the public and the stalls which were presided over by Mrs Lowe, Mrs Rarnand. Mrs Forster. Miss Johnston, Miss Symes. Miss Willis. Miss Ctompstcce and Mrs Morgan, did a very brisk business. The local brass band under the eonductnrship of Bandmaster Wiliiams was in attendance and discoursed sweet music without, whilst the fair maidens j within coaxed the stray shillings from all and sundry. As a result of the Bazaar the Church funds will be considerably augmented.
