With reference to the present to the Auckland Museum by (he Hon. E. Mitchelson, of Te Kooti's walking •tick, it is stated that at the time of Te Kooti's arrest in connection with the Obiwa expedition in 188? he presented bis two valuable greenstontmeres and his mats to Mr W. J. Napier, who acted as Te Kooti's counsel in the Supreme Court. One of these m#>res is of great antiquity and was in possession of TeKooti when he escaped from the Chatham Islands in 1867. Mr Napier still has the meres among many other ctarioe at his residence at North Shore.
