WAIKAKA.
Own Correspondent. The recent spell of wet weather has retarded shear iner operations for the present. The lambing percentages in this district have been fairly good this season, one settler having as high as 120 per cent. Mr G. Fletcher has disposed of his Waikaka proberty to a Hawkes Bay gentleman for a good round sum. The property comprises some 1600 acres. Messrs Secccmbe Bros, have secured k * native lease of 2000 acres on the Waikaka, and they intend doing extensive improvements shortly. Mr Murray. Road Engineer in charge, passed through here recently on a tour of inspection. A number of settlers on the Waikaka are thinking seriously of sending a deputation to Wellington to bring before the powers that be, the fact, that otherwise than a pig track they., have no connection with civilisation. It is a scandal and a disgrace to the roads Department to think that those hardy pioneers have been without an outlet to their sections for the last six years.
