WAITOMO COUNTY COUNCIL.
Statutory Meeting
The statutory meeting of the above Council was held yesterday in the Council's office, Te Kuiti, at 12 o'clock. There were present: Crs Scholes, chairman, Were, Gregg, Hoffman, Boddie and Smyth Cr Were proposed, and Cr Hoffman seconded that Cr Scholes be elected chairman for the ensuing year (carried)
On the motion of the chairman seconded by Cr Boddie. it was resolved that the appreciation of the services rendered to the Council by the late Mr N. I. Hunt, be recorded on the minute book, and that a letter of sympathy be forwarded to Mrs Hunt. —The motion was carried in silence, the Councillors standing.
As a mark of respect to the late Mr N. I. Hunt, the Council adjourned for one hour.
The adjourned meeting was continued at one o'clock.
The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The outward correspondence was read and approved. The inward correspondence was read and received as follows: — Mr J. R. Smith wrote re water from the road running on to his land. —Cr Boddie moved that the engineer be instructed to see that the surface water be diverted from Mr Smith's property. Seconded by Cr Were and carried. Mr C. B. Lever informed the Council that he desired to start Auctioneering in Te Kuiti and asked that a license be granted as from January Ist, 1910. —Cr Boddie proposed and Cr Gregg seconded that the license be granted —Carried. Mr F. A. Pearson wrote re work requiring to be done on the Kaimango road. —It was resolved that the "thirds," accrued on this road, be expended thereon and that tlie matter of attending to the required work be left in the hands of the Cr for the Riding A telegram was received from the Lands and Survey Office, in reply to the request of the County Engineer, for a plan showing the Mairoa Loan Special Rating Area, that owing to pressure of work in the office the necessary plan was not at the present time available.
A letter was received from Mr Walsh, manager of the Wilson Cement Company, re removal of clay on to a county road. —On the motion of Cr Boddie it was resolved that the request be granted the work to be done under the direction of the County Engineer. Mr J. Pitcon wrote re an outstanding account. —It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of the chairman in conjunction with theclerk, to deal with.
Mr Lever, through Mr Howarth, requested that the road through Mr Smith's property, giving access to his land be taken by the Council, the said road having been in use for 20 years or more and now closed. —It was resolved that an effort be made to secure a 66 foot road and that the matter be left in the hands of the Chairman with full power to act. Messrs Skelton and McAdarn wrote stating that they had no access to their property by road, and asking that the road which Mr Jordan is now surveying be continued through Tuhua Nos. 68, 26 the Government road terminating between sections 3 and 4, Block XIV, Mangaroa S.D., which would give access to a number of settlers now roadless. —On the motion of Cr Boddie, seconded by Cr Scholes it was resolved that the Council should take action in the matter.
A letter from the Department of Public Health was received informing the Council that in future, unless arrangements have been made with the Department as under Section 94 of the "Public Health Act 1908," it would be expected that the Council would undertake the inspection and disinfection of premises from which an infectious disease had been notified. The Secretary to the Treasury wrote stating thaf the Special Order making the Special Rate for the £SOO loan for the Otorohanga —Hangatiki Road had been gazetted. The Public Works Department, in reply to the Council's request for rooms in the Roads Department's Buildings for temporary Council Office wrote stating that the Council had been granted two rooms on the first floor at a rental of 15s per week. The Clerk informed the Council that he had wired accepting the offer as from the 27th November. —It was resolved that the Clerk's action in the matter be confirmed. The Minister for Public Work? wrote acknowledging the receipt ot the letter supporting an application made by the settlers interested in the formation of the Ahuroa Road, and in reply slated that the Council's representation on the subject bad been noted for consideration when the Public Works Estimates are being prepared. A letter was received from the Assistant Under Secretary acknowledging the receipt of the Council's letter of the 2nd inst with reference to expenditure of grants which may be provided for works in the Waitcmo County; also asking for loan of a stone crushing-plant, stating that enquiries are being made in the matter and on receipt of a report from me District Engineer further communication would hf; =ant. the Qtorohanea —Hauturu road in

Resolved that the Engineer be instructed to put in a culvert in Sheridan Street, Te Kuiti, to carry or: storm water. Cr Boddie moved that application be made to the Treasury for the provisional approval of the loan for the Mangaorino road deviation, as soon as the ratepayers consent is in order. Seconded by Cr Were and carried. Resolved that the amount of the Mairoa Loan to be raised in each year be left to the Chairman and Clerk to arrange. Resolved that the engineer be authorised to continue the formation of the Mangaorino road, the cost of same to be paid out of available "thirds' r already scheduled. Resolved that Cr Gregg be authorised to expend £6 on Poison's Hill in the Olorohanga riding.
