PUTAHI.
(Own Correspondent.) A well attended meeting of settlers, held at Mr S. Vicary's residence, on the 18th inst., in connection with the proposed school, was the outcome of ! much interest. I Mr W. 11. Williamson was elected j chtirman, Mr A. H. Perrott secretary I and treasurer. It seems unfair that settlers should bear the cost of erecting a public school, for such is the case. A good sum was raised for that purpose, and much pleasure was expressed at the splendid site set apart for the school, as it was so central. Within the past twelve months this part of the district has made rapid strides, about 1000 acres of bush being felled, besides several miles of fencing. Mr W. H. Williamson intends erecting an eight roomed bouse and despite the bad condition of the roads a large portion of the timber is already on the ground. The contract is let for building and a start will be made in the course of two or three weeks.
