The Waiharakefce Bridge is now in a very forward state, everything being in readiness for the erection. About six weeks should see this important structure completed. Mr. A. Armstrong/ County Engineer, and Mr. W. Bathe. Public Works Overseer, went to Kinohaku last Wednesday, and decided on a site for the erection of wharf and shed. This work is to be proceeded with very shortly, and we trust the Government will expedite the construction of a bridge over the Oteke stream, ami the construction of a road to above site. Abbott and Company are putting up alarge store in Jervois Street. It is an old building they brought from Hokianga. —District Roads.— We are looking forward to a very vigorous policy In the widening of our roads again this year, and trust the authorisations for the various roads works will be out shortly, so as to take advantage of all the fine weather for construction. An enormous amount of money will be required to clear the roads of flips this summer. Mr CarrolKs survey party arrived at Kawhia lately, and is now located in the Taumatatotara block, comprising about 12.000 acres. Mr Carroll will be actively engaged for some time making a preparatory survey for settlement purposes. The s.s. Rothesay is busy carrying I timber from Marokopa, there being a | good demand for timber just now. J In the country many people are pre- • paring for the milking season, the I local dairy factory anticipating a much | increased supply of cream this season. Lambing has been good throughout I the district, and the outlook generally is good for farmers. Two new launches have lately been added to the number already here, one being owned by Mr Geo. Wbitcombe, and the other by Messrs Hunter and Ward of the dairy factory which one is to be used in carrying cream to the factory. It is proposed to hold a regatta and sports carnival here in Christmas week. A good programme has been drawn up, and the committee are arranging details and intend to making the meeting a success.
