OHURA COUNTY COUNCIL.
First Election. The first election of councillors for the newly constituted Ohura County took place on Monday last. The following are the results in the various ridings: Tato. Mr O'Brien 27; Mr Loved*? 20; Mr Currie, 14. Mangaroa. Mr Williams, 26; Mr Deniaoo, 25. Tongaporute. Mr Stevenson, 10; Mr Seerup, 9. Waitewhena Mr Risk, 31; Mr Meredith 9. Matierc. Mr Sandiaon, 25; Mr Lyon, 21; Mr Hydj 13. Otangiwat. Mr Stewart, 26; Mr Carter, 14; Mr O'Brien. 5. Council Meeting. The first meeting of the Council was held on Tuesday, when all the Councillors were present. Mr R. Fennelf, Returning Officer presided and declared the result of the etection. In congratulating the Councillors he JwisheJ the new County every prosperity. Chairman. Mr Stevenson's being the only nomination, that gentleman was unanimously elected. General. A quantity of formal correspondence was dealt with. It was decided to foin the Counties Association and the Chairman was appointed delegate, the rating of Native Lands to be supported by the County. Accounts to the amount of £lOl in connection with the formation of County and election, were passed for payment. Councillors' travelling allowances were fixed. A committee was appointed to draw up standing orders and bye-laws. On the motion of Cr Sandison. seconded by Cr McKinncn, a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Fennell for the assistance rendered to Councillors through his knowledge of tocaf Government matters and proceedure. Mr Fennel I in reply thanked the Councillors for their considerate treatment. It was decided to apply to the Commissioner of Crown Lands for a section on which to erect offices. Mr J. F. McClenaghan was appointed temporary clerk, fidelity and compensation insurances ty be effected. It was decided that the bank account should be kept at the Bank of New Zealand, Te KuitK the chairman to interview the bank manager. The "King Country Chronicle" was appointed County Gazette. Meeting days were arranged for th? Wednesday nearest the full moon in each month. It was resolved to arrange with the Waitomo Council for a conference regarding accounts and to obtain authority for the Ohura Council to collect outstanding rates. It was decided to caH for applications for the combined postitien of Clerk and Engineer. The dog tax was fixed at 2s Sd for sheep, cattle and rabbit dogs up to four, and at 10s for all other dogs. The clerk was instructed to obtain a quotation for dog collars from Mr Martin. Ohura. Messrs Watts and Broadfoot were appointed Solicitors to the County. It was decidfcd to request the Commissioner for Crown Lands to vest a site tor the saleyards in the Council.
