RACING.

The first meeting of the new racing year in the Auckland district opened at Avondale on Saturday last. The Avondale Cup was won by Mr J. McNicoll's Tattoo. Tattoo was bred by his owner at Wairongomai, Waikato. The Avondale Stakes in which the first is seen in public of the two year olds, was won by Mr Murdoch McLean's Asbby, by Obligado.

Contractors for the course for the Te Kuiti Racing Club are pushing on the work rapidly and hope to be finished in a week or two. The committee urgently request all members to forward this year's subscriptions so as to enable them to have the course in order for a meeting this year.
