STOPPAGE OF ROAD WORKS.

Mr G. G. Jonathan, chairman of the Kawhia Town Board, has received the following communication from Mr W. T. Jennings, M.P., with reference to the suspension of road works in the district: —"Yours of July 28th reached me. I have had a wordy warfare with the Acting-Premier and the Minister of Roads over the chaotic conditions affecting the construction of roads, owing to the amalgamation. I had complaints from Raetihi Settlers' Association, Otangiwai Settlers' Association, and others, similar to the one you sent me. Yet the Minister in his replies states that no contracts had been terminated. The fact of the matter, it appears to me, is that they have got a panic on over something and knocked over all departments. By doing so matters haven't been improved in any way. The last advice I have had from the Department is that an engineer has been instructed to report on all matters that I have submitted.
