DISTRICT ROADS.
Considerable comment has been made from time to time regarding the stoppage of work on the road works in this district, and strong representations have been made to the Government through the member for the district. Mr Jennings has been in constant communication with the Minister in charge concerning the matter, and has received, the following letter from the Hon. R. McKenzie on the subject:— "Sir,—With reference to your letter of the 17th ultimo, urging that certain road works which have been stopped in Te Kuiti district should be proceeded with; I have the honor to forward herewith for your information a schedule showing showng certain road works which have been stopped. From this schedule you will gather that in nearly every instance the amount authorised far exceeds the vote; and this being so, I regret to inform you that it is impossible to continue the works until further funds are available."
