THE CARLOS COMPANY.

August 2£tb marks the first appearance of the Carlos Company through this district, opening at Te Kuiti Hall. On this date the performance consists of an entire vaudeville company of lady and gentlement artists, including the marvellous snake charmer. Cleopatra, with her immense collection of living snakes and alligators, seventeen in all which the lady carries around her body, arms and neck at one time. As she moves about among them her own motions are sinuous and snaki like. Occasionally as a snake apparently irritated by fluttering of bright coloured drapery, rears itself up threateningly. the charmer's hand shoots forth like lightning and the squirming reptile is seized close under the head and rendered powerless. One of the two alligators is trained, and when a handkerchief is tied over bis jaw he adroitly removes it with the aid of one of his bind paws. Concerning "Bonita" —who is the possessor of many medals: also the championship belt of South Africa. — the rifles used by the little lady are ordinary Winchester repeaters, using in every instance, single bullets. "Bonita'* shoots in every conceivable position including standing on her head, moving objects round her father's head, disrobing her sister in full view of the audience giving a striking illustration of what perfection rmy be acquired by steady and cartful practice. This little child of the plains' performance requires to be seen to be fully appreciated. Another membrr of the Companv is Manoet Carlos, who. apart from acting as human target for "Bonita" is an elocutionist of high order, among his rrpctt'irr being that beautiful American story of "Lasca." Miss Louie is a vocalist of high order, and renders pleasing songs. Mr CeoTjtr Martin, the humorist of the company is a clever comedian. The piano is in the capable hands of Mr David Lewis. The company have been drawing crowded houses down the line, and should be received by a big house on Te Kuiti. l>eor? open at ?.3») and commences at p.m.
