TE KUITI FIRE BRIGADE.
At lh" Irist "f tin.- Waitomo County Council, a deputation, consisting ot Mc:-srs ford, Fortescue, and Matthew waited on the Council and applied for a grant of £lO to assist the Briagc'c in teh purchase of plant. Mr Boddi", councillor for the riding, introduced the deputation, and pointed out that the Council had absolute power under Section 180 of the Act to not only assist a brigade by a small grant, but to provide everything necessary for the equipment of a brigade. The townspeople had contributed most liberally towards the funds, and the necessary plant was about to be purchased. The grant would of course come out of the town funds.
The Chairman said he sympathised with the application but the riding was already in debt, and there was some danger of the County interests being disregarded in favour of the town.
Mr Boddie said there was no idea or possibility of sacrificing the interests of the country settlers. He was personally more interested in the country than in the town, and would certainly not support anything to prejudice the interests of country settlers. The present application was sound and the grant could be readily be adjusted.
On the motion of Cr Boddie, seconded by Cr Werp, the grant was authorised.
