NATIVE TOWNSHIPS.

At the last meeting of the Wailoiito County Council Mr (laddie. Councillor for Te Kuiti riding said he wa? in receipt rf information from the ('resident of the Koari Land Board conccrringt the Native Townships, which he considered his duty to disclose to the Council. For some considerable time, Mr Boddie said, there had been an impression abroad that the townships were outside the jurisdiction of the County, and a fetter which he had received frwm the President of the Maori Land Board confirmed this impression. On September 22nd, the townships had been gazetted as being under the provisions of the Native Townships Act, and the jurisdiction of the County had ceased from that date. It wool J apparently he necessary to form local bodies in the various townships, and no doubt steps in that direction would shortly be taken. As far as Te Kuiti was concerned, it might be possible to form a Borough Council, but if the population w&s not sufficient no doubt a Native Town Council would be set op. The same conditions would of course apply to Otorohanga.
