"ENGAGED."

What is described as the event of the season in the social and playgoing circles of Te Kuiti will , take place at the Town Wnll tomorrow evening when "Engaged" will be staged by the Te Kuiti Dramatic Society. The members of the Society have been working up to their parts assiduously for a considerable time, and if report speaks truly the public are to be treated to something exceptionally good in the way of histrionic art. The play, which is from the pen of Sir W. S. Gilbert, is comedy, pure and unadulterated, and, as is indicated by the title, is a humorous interpretation of the old, old story. The doings of a susceptible young man, Cheviot Hill, and the manner in which he tells his story to the not-unwilling damsels whom he meets, naturally create many dramatic and humorous situations. The position is complicated by the introduction of other individuals and circumstances, particularly by the fact that the engagements take place on the borderland of England and Scotland,a locality clothed with romantic asociations. But the play has to be seen to he thoroughly appreciated. The stage management is in the capable hands of Mr C. H. Phillips,'assisted by Mr S. J. Fortescue, and both gentlemen have been indefatigable in their efforts to work the play to the pronounced success which it promises to attain. The musical part of the will be under the directorship of THr Corringham. The prices charged to each part of the house are reasonable, and it is to be hr.prd n bumper house will greet the first effort of the Dramatic Society. The profits of Jh»» performance are to he devoted to the funds of thn local Fire Brigade- an institution which thoroughly deserves the support of the whole community.
