Settlement Scheme ! The scheme recently outlined by the Prime Minister for the purpose of providing land for civil servants who have ; been retired in consequence of the recent reorganising of the service, is evidently to be pushed ahead without [ loss of time.
Three settlements are being provided by the Government, one about eight miles from Kihikihi, another at Raurimu, and the third at Owhanga. Applications for land are to be invited shortly and the opportunity offered is such that within 12 months the newsettlers should be producing from their holdings. The Kihikihi settlement is reached by a good road, and on it there will no 18 small farms of from 160 to 180 seres of fern cr tratrre country, while at Raurimu and Owhanga the settlements adjoin the Main Trunk line, and are of bush country subdivided in similar areas to the Kihikihi settlement. Liberal advances are to be made towards the erection of a house on each section, while the holders will be given further advances up to £2 IPs per acre for felling bush and grassing, or up to £2 an ncr j for clearing and grassing the fern and tea-tree lard.
