RUGBY UNION BALL.

Considerable interest is manifested in the Maniapoto Rugby Union Ball to be held tonight in the local hall. During the week the committee, ably assisted by a number of ladies, have spared neither time nor energy to give every attention to detail, in order that a most enjoyable evening may be spent. Dancers are again reminded that masks must be worn till ten o'clock, when programmes will be distributed. Just previous to supper a beautiful banner will be presented to the Union by the ladies of Te Kuiti, to be competed for by the affiliated clubs. As usual the business people have evinced that interest so characteristic of them in all public functions. Four very nice prizes have been donated for presentation to the ladies and gentlemen wearing the most original fancy dress costumes The first prize gentleman—is an overcoat presented by Messrs Green and Colebrook, to be selected by the successful competitor. A jersey presented by Mr G. Lineham, has been allotted as second prize. Mr Jones Prosser has very kindly donated a trimmed hat to be cho-'en by the lady who catche? the committee's eye as being the most tastefully and originally dressed in fancy costume. A large panel picture very much admired during the week, and the gift, of Messrs Phillips and Co., will become the property of the lady securing the second prize. With such incentives, to say nothing of the floor, which is in perfect order, and the music, as usual by the Turner-Hetet band, tonight's ball should be one long to be rememI, bered in Te Kuiti.
