TE KUITI DRAMATIC SOCIETY.

- A short time ago steps were taken to form an Amateur Dramatic Societj' at Te Kuiti, and the project was eagerly taken up by several ladies and gentlemen anxious to provide amusement and recreation during the winter by cultivating the histrionic art. For some considerable time the members of the Society have been assidiously rehearsing the well known play, "Engaged," by W. S. Gilbert, and have made such excellent progress that it is intended to stage the play at Te Kuiti Hall in about a fortnight.

The aim and object of the Society, besides providing wholesome recreation, is to assist in promoting the interests of any project having for its object the public good, and the proceeds of the first performance under the auspices of the Society are to be donated to the local Fire Brigade funds. With such a worthy object in view there is little doubt that the public will support loyally the efforts of the Society, and the first night of "Engaged" should certainly be greeted with a bumper house. Another favourite play in the shape of "Doctor Bill," is about to be taken in hand for rehearsal and will be staged at a later date.
