By a recent decision of the Customs Audit Department, exporters of jeweller's gold sweepings arc now called upon to pay the export duty levied on gold under the provisions of "The Gold Duty Act. 1908." This entails upon exporters the necessity of having the sweepings assayed by a local licensed gold assayer before shipment, as otherwise Jhe duty of 2/ an ounce is legally chargeable upon the total weight of the sweepings.
