OTOROHANGA.

(Own Correspondent.)

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Otorohanga Branch of the N.Z. Farmera* Union was held on June 4 th. There were present: Mr John Ormsby, chairman. Messrs R. F. Gregg. J. Ranby. R. Matthews, J. Budge, W. Viacry, B. Budden, Chas. Cater, W. Simpson, C. J. Johnson, and H. Quin, secretary and treasurer. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. —Vice-Chairman.

The election of a vice-Chairman took place there being two candidates for the honour, and upon the vote being taken. Mr R. Matthews was elected by • two majority. Mr Matthews briefly thanked the meeting for the honour conferred upon him by his fellow members. —Correspondence.— The inward correspondence was then dealt with as follows: — From the Manager of the Bank of N.Z. Te Awarauto.re opening a Branch office of the said bank at Otorohanga. —Received.

From the Hon. Minister of Railways in repty to the representations of this branch regarding the erection of a goods shed at KH> Kio. The Minister pointed out that in view of the many note argent works in the district of a •basilar nature, be regretted he coold not in the meantime accede to the reqpest of the Union. From the Ohinemuri River Silting Association asking for the co-opera-tion of this branch in the placing of their grievances,regarding the damage done through the indiscriminate depositing of mining tailings in the Obinemuri River before Parliament. — Letter receivei. From the Dominion Chairman, J. G. Wilson, Esq., and the Auckland secretary of the N.Z. Union, enclosing a table and asking for the assistance of this branch and ascertaining as to the best methods of treating, with a view to improving grass lands: The information was asked for on behalf of the Standing Committee of the N.Z. Agricultural Association's Conference. After general discussion it was resolved to write for more circulars in order to have them distributed among the membets of the Union in the district.

—General.

Mr R. Matthews proposed that the secretary again write to the Minister of Railways re having the trucking yards removed to a more convenient site, also pointing out that the yards were far too small for the amount of tracking done. Mr Cater seconded the notion, which was carried.

—Public Pound.—

Tb« Chairman explained that the Waitomo County Council were agrecable to have tb« Pound established at Otorohanga, providing that a satisfactory *ite could be obtained Mr CJ. Johnson proposed that the matter be left in the bands of the Executive. The resolution was seconded by W. Simpson* and carried —Ssteyards.— The Chairman explained the present position as regards the acquiring of the freehold site for the saleyards, exStaining that it would be necessary »the first instance to form a body of Provincial Directors to transfer the ■He from McNicol and Company. Mr R. S. Matthews proposed that the following gentlement be the Provincial Directors: Messrs R- Cregg, J. Budge, C. Cater, A. Ross, C. Johnson, W. Roberts, John Ormsby, B. Sudden, W. Vicary, R. Matthews and H. Qoin. Seconded by Mr W. Simptor and carried. Mr W. Vicary proposed that the Company to acquire the land and erect tike yards be floated, and that the Capital he £SOO, representing 100 shares at JBS each, payment t9 be £1 on application, £1 on allotment, and all future calls at 10s each; snd further that the Company be called "The Otorobanga §aieyards Company. Mr Chas. Cater seconded.

The resolution was ruled out of order by the Chairman, owing to the fact of » similar one being already on the urinate book.

1 —Notice of Motion.--Mr W. Vitary moved as a Notice of Motion, that at tbe next meeting be will again bring forward and move as 1 above the resolution made this day by him and which was ruled out of order. General idscussion then took place , regarding tbe valoe of shares and other matters connected with the proposed Company. - -Notice of Meetings.— Mr Budden moved that important business coming before future meeting* be inserted in the notices of meetings forms, sent by the secretary to the members. Mr Ranby seconded. Mr R. S. Matthews proposed, as an amendment, that what constitutes business which is of somicent importance shall be decided by tbe Branch Executive, who will instruct the Secretary as to what to put in Notices of Meetings form. Mr Bodden seconded pro forma, which be afterwards withdrew and seconded the amendment which was carried. —Dates of Meetings.— Mr W. Vicary proposed that during the Winter months the meetings he held once every two months, instead of monthly as at present. This lapsed for want of a seconder, tho «e present expressing the opinion that by having the meetings as at present—monthlymembers would take more interest in the doings of the Union.

—Train Service-

Mr C. J. Johnson proposed that the secretary be instructed to communicate with the District Traffic Manager of New Zealand Railways asking him if he could ?ee hi* way clear to have a passenger car attached to the late goods train, which runs between Taumaromti and Frankten twice weekly, reaching Otorohanga about 7 p.m., and further that tbe secretary be also instructed to communicate with the Te Kuiti Branch of the Union asking for their assistance in bringing about the desired end. Mr R. Gregg seconded the motion which was carried.

It was pointed out by the mover that the fact of having a passenger car at* tached to this goods train would be a boon and a very great convenience to the general travelling public. The meeting concluded with the usual vote of thanks to the Chair.
